The Organization was founded by
Sanskrut Choodamani Raghunath Ganesh Parashtekar.
Surawanee started its beginning in a very auspicious place viz the first floor Sabhamandap of Shree Kaupineshwar Mandir, Thane. The temple is supposed to be built during the time of Shilahar Dynasty.
However Surawanee had to be relocated when the temple was renovated. After a long and difficult struggle for getting premises, Surawanee now has got its own small premises.
The Organization was lucky to have a dedicated teacher Mr Mukund Damle who took enormous efforts for Surawanee to have its own premises.
The new location Surawanee is situated right in the middle of the main part of Thane city.
After retirement of Parashtekar Sir, various Sanskrut scholars adorned the President’s /Vice President’s Chair in the Organization or have been Committee Members. The names of some of them are as follows:
Dr V B Pandit
S V Kulkarni
Bhau Apte
Bhatakhande
D K Soman
Medha Soman
Along with Sanskrut, for the benefit of the students, subjects like Mathematics, English, Science etc. were taught. For these subjects the teachers did honorary work and taught with dedication. The memories of marvelous teaching of the teachers for English Language – viz. Damle Sir and Athalye Sir are very much fresh in the minds of the past students.
Mrs Nandedkar was Pradhanacharya for 30 long years. This time was a period of long struggle due to the change of educational policy by the Govt, change in the social environment and as well as long wait for getting own premises.
